Ultra wide-angle 14mm with a maximum aperture of F1.4 and outstanding optical performance

This world-first performance was achieved by applying the best of Sigma’s optical technologies, from the design to the lens manufacturing process. 19 elements in 15 groups, including 1 SLD glass element, 3 FLD glass elements, and 4 aspherical lens elements, make up a luxurious lens configuration. This allows for advanced aberration correction and a high degree of precision in the lens construction. This allows both advanced aberration correction and F1.4 brightness. In particular, sagittal coma flare, which distorts the shape of stars, has been carefully corrected, and even at the widest aperture, the lens delivers high image reproducibility right to the periphery of the image. Ghosting and flare are also thoroughly addressed through both optical design and coatings. This allows for clear, crisp shooting of starry sky and night scenes. Optimized for starscapes, which require extremely high performance, this lens delivers images that exceed expectations in any scene, including landscapes, architecture snapshots, portraits, and indoor photography.

The largest class φ79mm aspherical lens element

Abundant functions and accessories to support starscape photography

The 14mm F1.4 DG DN | Art is equipped with a wealth of features to support starscape photography. This fully backs up the fun of starscape photography.

Tripod Socket

Includes a detachable tripod socket compatible with Arca-Swiss type. As the 14mm F1.4 DG DN | Art is heavier on the front side, attaching the tripod socket helps it mount on a tripod in a more stable way. The shape is designed to prevent interference even when using the lens heater.

MFL (Manual Focus Lock) Switch

When the MFL switch is set to “LOCK”, the focus ring operation will be disabled. It prevents focus shift caused by unintentional operation of the focus ring. This is useful for long time exposure photography, etc., where the focus should be fixed.

Lens Heater Retainer

A lip at the front of the lens prevents the lens heater* from protruding into the front of the lens and causing vignetting on the periphery of the screen.

*A belt-shaped heater that is wrapped around the lens to prevent condensation from forming inside the lens when the temperature drops.
*Lens heater is not included.

Rear filter Holder

A rear filter holder is provided as standard equipment at the lens mount for attaching a sheet-type rear filter. A lock mechanism is also provided to prevent the filter from falling out.

Special front cap with locking mechanism and filter slots

ncludes a cover-type front cap with locking mechanism. It also has newly developed filter slots that can hold two rear filters depending on the application. The cap is specially designed for the 14mm F1.4 DG DN | Art to protect the sheet filters from scratches and dirt while ensuring that they are not mistakenly taken out or forgotten.

Signature Art line features and high build quality

In addition to functions specifically designed for shooting starscapes, the lens is equipped with various functions to assist in shooting, including an AFL button to which any function can be assigned and an aperture ring. The body is dust and splash resistant, and the frontmost surface of the lens is coated with a water and oil repellent coating, so you can shoot outdoors in harsh environments with peace of mind. The HLA (High-response Linear Actuator) enables high-speed, quiet, and highly accurate autofocusing. In order to maintain performance while supporting a lens with a large aperture, the lens has a robust internal structure and uses lightweight materials such as polycarbonate TSC (Thermally Stable Composite), which has a thermal shrinkage rate equivalent to that of aluminum, and magnesium in appropriate locations to reduce weight while ensuring robustness. The lens body is built with the high build quality of the Art line specifications, allowing the user to fully enjoy the unique performance of the lens in any environment, including shooting starscapes.

*1 When turned ON at the position A, the iris ring is locked at A. When turned ON at a position other than A, it is locked within the range between the maximum to minimum apertures and will not engage at the position A.
*2 Only on compatible cameras. Available functions may vary depending on the camera used.
*3 The structure is designed to be dust and splash resistant, but not waterproof. Be careful not to bring the lens in contact with a large amount of water. Water inside the lens may cause major damage and even render the lens unrepairable.

MTF CHART

There are two types of MTF chart. One considers the diffraction quality of light, which is called "Diffraction MTF", and the other, "Geometrical MTF" does not.

The quality of light appears in the diffracted light, and becomes more distinct as the F value gets bigger, resulting in lower image quality. Also, diffracted light exists at every aperture, which is why Sigma has been releasing Diffraction MTF data from the beginning since it is very close to the actual image data.

The advantage of using "Geometric MTF" data is that it is easy to measure and calculate since it does not consider the diffraction quality of light, yet it tends to show higher values in the graph than actual images.

The readings at 10 lines per millimeter measure the lens's contrast ability ( red lines), repeating fine parallel lines spaced at 30 lines per millimeter measure the lens's sharpness ability (green lines), when the aperture is wide open.

Fine repeating line sets are created parallel to a diagonal line running from corner to corner of the frame, are called Sagittal lines (S) and sets of repeating lines vertical to these lines are drawn, called Moridional (M) line sets.

*The MTF chart gives the result at the wide-open aperture.

Inner focus system

To increase stability, this lens configuration uses movable internal lens elements that adjust focus without changing the length of the lens barrel.

HLA (High-response Linear Actuator)

HLA is SIGMA's proprietary linear motor. It drives the focus lens directly without going through gears or other mechanical parts, resulting in quiet, high-precision autofocusing.

Compatible with Lens Aberration Correction

Matching the optical characteristics of the lens, this function performs in-camera corrections of peripheral illumination, chromatic aberrations, distortion, and more, to further enhance image quality.

*Function available on supported cameras only. Available corrections or auto correction functionality may vary depending on the camera model.
*On cameras where lens aberration correction is controlled with 'ON' or 'OFF' in the camera menu, please set all aberration correction functions to 'ON'(AUTO).

Super Multi-Layer Coating

SIGMA's own Super Multi-Layer Coating suppresses flare and ghosting by preventing reflections with in the lens. All lenses in the current SIGMA range feature this original technology. In digital cameras, flare and ghosting may also be caused by reflections between the image sensor and lens surfaces. Here too, SIGMA's Super Multi-Layer Coating is highly ef fective, assuring images of outstanding contrast.

Water and oil repellent coatin

Incorporates a water and oil-repellent coating that allows water to be wiped away easily and prevents oil and fat from sticking to the surface, even in challenging shooting conditions. At the same time, the maintenance of the lens surface becomes easier.

Aperture ring

Aperture ring, designed to help users work intuitively

Aperture ring click switch

Mounted with a de-click function for removing clicks by the aperture ring click switch, enabling seamless operations that are especially useful such as during video shooting.

Aperture ring lock switch

A ring lock system to prevent from unintended movement of the aperture ring during shooting.

AFL button

the AFL button can be assigned with various functions widens the range of operations available on the lens.

MFL switch

The MFL (Manual Focus Lock) switch disengages the focus ring on the lens. After manually focusing the lens to the desired position, set the MFL switch to 'LOCK' in order ]to disengage the focus ring.
This prevents the focus of the lens from being moved by accident (such as when attaching a lens heater or changing the composition) and causing out of focus images. The focus ring can still be rotated but will have no effect.
* Please note that some camera bodies may continue to AF even if the MFL switch is set to 'LOCK', or allow AF temporarily even when the camera has been set to MF, and shift the focus when the MFL switch is set to 'LOCK'.

Rear filter holder

The rear filter holder allows the attachment of a sheet-type filter to the rear part of the lens.
Trace the shape on a sheet filter using the guide plate and cut it out for use.

Lens Heater Retainer

The Lens Heater Retainer is a protruding lip at the front of the lens. When the lens is used in conjunction with a lens heater, the Lens Heater Retainer stops the heater from over hanging the front element and causing vignetting. Lens heaters prevent condensation and night dew during nightscape photography such as astrophotography.

Focus Mode Switch

Using this swich, it is possible to switch the focus mode between AF and MF.

Dust and Splash Resistant Structure

This lens features a highly effective dust and splash resistant structure with special sealing at the mount connection, manual focus ring, zoom ring, and cover connection.

*Although this construction allows the lens to be used in light rain, it is not the same as being waterproof, so please prevent large amounts of water from splashing on the lens. It is often impractical to repair the internal mechanism, lens elements and electric components if they are damaged by water.
